FIGHTING FOR INDIE BUSINESSES!!!

July 31st, 2008 (06:30 am)

Ok, so the proposed Orwellian FDA Globalization Act of 2008 is basically threatening the existence of Serpentine Hair and all other indie bath & body/cosmetics businesses by forcing all of us small business owners to pay thousands of dollars a year in "registration fees," as well as throwing us a ton of pointlessly cumbersome paperwork every year. Here are the links from the Indie Beauty Network as to exactly what this anti-free trade mess of a bill entails.

If anyone wants to help, PLEASE sign this petition against the bill that would effectively ensconce giant companies like Proctor & Gamble, L'Oreal, etc. as pretty much the only businesses going that could afford the exorbitant time/money suck proposed by this miserable affront to consumer choice everywhere:

Honestly, I'm usually not the type to ask people to sign a petition, but the way this bill is being sneaked under everyone's collective radar is too much, and the way the government is trying to appease their corporate overlords by crippling small businesses and limiting the choice of the people is beyond the pale. Please sign the petition if you have the time, and pass it along to anyone you know who loves their indies! Thanks so much for your support!

i signed this a month ago...thanks for posting it again so i can forward this to everyone.

i myself would love to just support the small business and people who don't test on animals. i wonder if they are doing this because a lot of people are waking up and realizing that the big business doesn't have their health in mind and they keep using questionable ingredients and losing sales.

Hey, thanks for a.) signing, and b.) forwarding this along!

And yes, I have a sneaking suspicion that the worldwide marketplace known as the Internet has made indie businesses more viable competitors than ever before to the big businesses out there (L'Oreal, Proctor & Gamble, etc.), and they'd rather lobby their purchased congressional puppets to put wee e-tailers out of business than change their manufacturing/business practices. :-P

(Here, share my tinfoil hat.)
